Hallo fambly!
Are you all happy, healthy, and hearty? Good.
It is almost the END of a year AND a decade. That calls for a party. Let's have one on Thursday. It'll be fun. We'll have cake and sparkling ( and non-sparkling ) apple juice, and at midnight (or sooner) we'll make a big racket with pots n pans. M'kay?
I'm going to bed. Ni Nite!
Love,
Pa

Thursday is Thor's Day!
Today is named after Thor, the Norse god of THUNDER! So, Thursdays are great days to bang on drums!boom Bo0M BOOM!
Thor's hammer is named Miƶlnir... all old-school warrior-gods' weapons have names. You'll learn more about this when you read and/or watch "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit". Good stories for all of you, but not until you're a bit older... Gracie may be ready for "The Hobbit" right now.
Trivial Fact: the rock band KISS recorded a song called "God of Thunder" for its super-awesome album, Destroyer. Here's a link to the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZmbf_q-ZfQ&feature=related
Important Note: The KISS song really has nothing to do with Thor, Thursday, or Lord of the Rings. There are, however, drums involved... so...

Wednesday is Woden's Day
Woden is the chief Anglo-Saxon/Teutonic god. Woden is the leader of the Wild Hunt. Woden is from wod "violently insane" + -en "headship". He is identified with the Norse Odin. This is the scariest day-name revelation so far! I spose if one were to have a bad day, Wednesday is the day to do it. Personally, I had a pretty good day. Plenty of freezing cold fresh air, plenty of ice-covered tools and building materials, plenty of moustache icicles. Good times.
Know what?
THAT'S what! Gotcha!

Da

Tuesday is Tiu's Day... Who Niu?

Did you know that Tuesday is named after the Old English/Germanic god of war called "Tiw" or "Tiu"? Neither did I! I did know that the Latin for Tuesday "Martis" is taken from Mars, the Roman god of war. Any way you slice it, Tuesday means WAR! So, stop reading and start thumb wrestling! (One, two, three, four: I declare thumb war!) Be gentle with Merry. Maybe just hold her hand and giggle.
Thanks to pbase.com for the big thumb image. And a special thanks to George and Ethel McKenna for providing us with a sense of the thumb's scale. Cheers!
Love to you,
Da'

Moonday

Did you know that Monday was named after the MOON?! Neither did I, not until a few years ago. Now YOU know.
It was super snowy on the way to work today. The roads were better suited for sleds or innertubes or sleighs or sumpin'. I wish you snow-lovers were with me today. The job site was covered in a FOOT (12 inches) of snow. Not too dry, not too wet. Juuuuuuust right. Just right for snowballs, snowmen, igloos. All kinds of fun. Do you know what we did with it? Nothing! We just shoveled it out of the way. No one even threw a snowball! What a waste!
Anyway... a little bird told me that you all were very good today. That was nice to hear. I'm sure Santa is happy to know that you are all being good children. Remember: he sees you when you're sleeping, and he knows when you're awake. He knows if you've been bad or good, so be good for goodness sake!
I love you all so much. It no fun to be all the way over in Vernal without Mama, Gracie, Livie, Owie, and Merry.
See you in my dreams...
Love,
Pap

Thursday... JAMES Thursday.
Ask Mama to explain today's title. And accept my apology for such a silly title. AND check out this picture:
Bond. James Bond. The world's greatest secret agent. Women want him. Men want to BE him. Children don't even CARE about him. And vice versa. Which is actually kind of sad, isn't it? However, there is another adventurer who not only loves children, he used to be one. His name? Jones. Indiana Jones.
Calm down, Gracie. You too, Mama.
And, now, for something completely different:

Wacky Wednesday
Hola, mi familia!
Jim "Catfish" Hunter had one of the best moustaches in baseball back in 1977. This is a copy of one of my old baseball cards. Enjoy.
It has been a loooooooooong coooooooooooold day. My moustache froze and broke off. I do look quite silly. That's okay, I looked pretty silly yesterday too.
Here's a fun pitcher:

You're welcome, Mama.
